100 Happy Days - Day 97:  Felt great after the gym class which, although only 45 mins long, was a great work out and I felt a bit sick in the middle! Need to work off holiday flab!

TV Stuff

100 Happy Days - Day 69: Great to actually find a tv show on a 'normal' channel (Channel 4) which is top quality! I've never watched the film 'Fargo' but am enjoying this series, though it took a while to get used to Martin Freeman's accent.

100 Happy Days - Day 70:  Loving this season's 'Game of Thrones' - I should stop trying to work out which parts of the books are being used...I think I'd enjoy it even more!

Thrones and Stuff

100 Happy Days - Day 49:  Season 4 starts! Yes, I know what happens because I've read the books but still, to actually see the events of the story unfold on screen is brilliant!

On a different note, I've been reading various blogs recently where people have simplified their lives by decluttering - getting rid of 'stuff' but keeping 'things'.

What's the difference? ‘Things’ are well-used, well-loved, well respected – you need them in your life. 'Stuff' however can be nice but either you've not gotten round to using them or you never will, yet you don’t want to throw them away as they were presents, etc.

I have a lot of stuff that I've accumulated over many years. I am a hoarder – fact.

I'm not going to change overnight, but I need to make a start - I will give most of it away to charity, or perhaps finally get round to selling on ebay again.

Who 50th Anniversary

As I was out with the girls mooching around the Manchester Christmas markets last night, I had to watch the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode on iPlayer.

Thought it was great, though not brilliant. My two favourite Doctors in the guise of Matt Smith and David Tennant, yet I blubbed a bit when Tom Baker appeared at the end - he was the Doctor I knew as a child and I guess for me, he'll always be the first Doctor.

No Breaks

I borrowed the 'Prison Break' Complete Series boxed dvd set from my mate AM about a month ago.

Didn't get round to start watching it until the other week and now I can't go a day without watching at least one episode. One evening, I did six episodes back to back - eyes were a bit dry after, maybe I didn't blink!

Great storyline and characters, funny seeing their dated clamshell-style mobile phones when in today's world, it'd all be iPhones and Blackberries.

Love the Michael and Sarah relationship.

My dilemma is - which brother do I fancy most? :-)

All I Want For Christmas Is...

Well I dunno about anyone else but I had a most pleasant Christmas - stress-free, relaxing, lots of drink, too much food (maybe the other way round...).

I was given my own Christmas stocking (a blingy snow white one!) as the glamorous C's son still 'believes'. It was filled with goodies - I must have been a good girl!

So Christmas morning, after a heavy night of champagne and wine, we were woken up early to shouts of "IT'S CHRISSSSSTMAS!" to open presents. Although not technically a gift as it was an unwanted upgrade of the glamorous C, I still see my new Nokia mobile phone as such - it's so dinky and cool!

Long distance calls to speak to members of my family - it was good to hear what they did, albeit without me and when I heard my little niece on the phone say my name, I tried not to get too emotional. Shame I didn't catch my Gran though.

The glamorous C cooked a lovely Christmas dinner - I did my share of peeling vegetables, and slicing/serving the meat, and also kept the kids amused so she was able to cook with little distraction. We ate non-stop, drank gin and a load of Baileys and watched Top Of The Pops. The kids' dad came to pick them up so me and the glamorous C carried on into the night, catching a whole manner of festive tv, it was really relaxing.

We didn't get many chances to chat but the glamorous C is in a happy place right now - she mentioned that her new bloke had asked her to move in with him, that her next wedding would be a very small affair...wow! Maybe it's just me but things are like going way too fast for my mind to comprehend (they met on 1st Nov...) but if she's happy and comfortable with it, it's no business of mine to say anything, I mean what do I know?

Boxing Day, we stayed in our pyjamas until late afternoon, watched St Trinians on DVD (the recent adaptation), nursed a sore head.

Later, the glamorous C was off to see her sugar daddy and me...? Well, I went out too and after watching Pride & Glory, had a fab and fun (but very late) night.

The next couple of days are a blur of sleeping, eating (turkey sandwiches or cheese and crackers) and watching episode after excellent episode of Lost: Season 3.

Sportwise, the festive period hasn't been a good one for Ebbsfleet United, but has been excellent for Liverpool, who after beating Bolton 3-0 on Boxing Day, went on to thrash Newcastle 5-1, netting me a nice crisp tenner (my usual wager with the Geordie at work) and keeping the Reds on top of the league into the new year and on track to win their first ever Premier League title....

Today, I thought I'd brave the sales. Decided against going to the Trafford Centre so I went into a very chilly Manchester. When I saw the hoardes there, I developed a headache but after a coupla hours, I came away with a few bits and pieces, including some incredibly high heels (why? Because they were on sale...) and being organised for once, picked up Christmas cards for next year too!

Back to work tomorrow before another long weekend - I need to motivate myself for aerobics too, start as I mean to go on, etc.

So did Santa bring me what I wanted? Perhaps - only hope that it's not just for Christmas! ;-)

Born of Frustration

So on Friday, I went to see the James gig at the Manchester Central (formerly known as the GMEX).

Tim Booth's vocals were excellent (what happened to all his hair?)and there was no tiredness when the usual favourites were sung, ie Sit Down, Laid, Say Something, Sometimes. There were some new tracks too which sounded promising.

The venue? Well, being a converted railway station, the acoustics did sound a little different - guess I'm used to places like the MEN Arena.

Plus someone my size would not generally choose an all standing gig (I may have spotted the stage a couple of times!) but there was an atmosphere that reminded me of my student days which I was quite comfortable with - the floor slick with spilt beer and crushed plastic pint pots!

Watched a bit of Gangs of New York on tv afterwards, an enjoyable but late evening.

Saturday - nearly didn't wake up in time for my train to York. Yes, another outing to watch Ebbsfleet United in action at the Kit Kat Crescent. Only two of the Manchester lads went - the others seem to have lost interest which is a shame but we met up with some of the others who travel to watch the club so it was still a good outing.

Shame about the football though - after dominating the first half and securing a 1-0 lead, the Fleet totally lost the plot and the game - it was shocking.

In the bar afterwards, the Fleet's 'coach' Liam Daish was there and some of the fans had a chat with him - he's big and a bit scary so I can't see many harsh words being said to him but I think tactically, he could have done a better job.

A playoff position now is a pretty unrealistic (we're in 12th place, 11 points off the zone) but one can still dream!

Glam and Sparkly and Tearful

"Weenie* - you look stunning!" uttered one of the IT managers. I have to admit that I did in fact look rather glamorous - have never worn a strapless dress before and I got many compliments that night. I'm just so glad I didn't have any drunken mishaps, so that dress will deffo get another outing!

So after a tough week at work for all, most people were looking forward to the company Christmas party, which took place at the Renaissance Hotel this year.

Despite being announced relatively last minute (I guess the company ultimately decided to go ahead with it to keep up morale), it was a pretty good turn out with over 200 people.

And the company was unusually generous too - 6 free bottles of wine per table, plus each person got two drinks vouchers. Taxi fares up to £15 (each way) could be claimed back off expenses too - this is totally unheard of in all the time I've worked for the business!

Drank loads of wine (plus the odd G&T!), did a bit of dancing, mingled and took a lot of photos - unlike the 'official' photographer who just snapped randomly at people sat at their tables, I knew most attendees by name so got them to pose - they'll be regretting that come Monday, haha!

JH was hammered again, was a bit naughty on the dancefloor with the Barney Rubble lookalike from the Remarketing department and at the end of the night, couldn't find her handbag... After last week's fiasco with her mobile phone, she was fortunate this time that her bag was located intact on some random table!

Was a good night - me and AM even got turfed out of someone else's party which we gatecrashed as their dj was playing better music - the taxi was on time, crashed out around 2.30am.


Come Saturday, I didn't/couldn't emerge from my bed until after 11am...bleugh! Looked at my photos on my camera - don't remember taking some of them but they turned out really well (must be a good camera!).

Anyway, after I'd woken up a bit, thought I'd brave city centre to do a bit of shopping.

Credit crunch, what credit crunch?The Arndale Centre was packed! I was there for only a short while, couldn't take any more than that so I did a bit of Tesco shopping, was home within the hour and dozing on the sofa!

Woke up in time to watch the X-Factor final. Yeah yeah you may scoff, but at the end of the day, I enjoy good live music and that's what I got. Not all of it was to my taste mind - Boyzone?? Westlife?? but Alexandra Burke, the winner in the end was class - her cover version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah not only a guaranteed Christmas number 1 but also the record-breaking fastest download ever. Wow, her tears of joy moved me to tears and even listening to the song is making me a bit emotional, blub blub!

Detox weekend?

It's coming up to that time of year where I give my liver and kidneys a severe bashing with alcohol - two Christmas parties coming up (departmental and company) and a football outing over the next few weekends.

This weekend, with not a lot planned (except Sunday), I thought I'd do a few chores, chill, relax and detox a little - even made myself some healthy salad meals.

But oops - several large gins and numerous bottles of beer later, I am relaxing, slumped in front of the telly munching cheesy puffs after a night of 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'X-Factor' - damn Tesco for having special offers on alchohol and snacks!

I have my outfits ready for the parties - one dress I've worn before at a wedding, another is a little slinky black strapless number which I'm looking forward to wearing - tried it on today and hey, I look hot in it if I may say so myself (it's not often I do, I usually look in the mirror and go "meh!")

With what's going on at work, this could well be the last company do I attend - it wouldn't do any harm to make a good lasting impression! :-)

Looking forward to getting my dancing shoes on!

Um...I recognise one of the guys...seen him around either in Manchester or at the gym!

Weekend Visits

I was hardly at home over the weekend.

On Friday, went straight from work to JH's. Funny, her house is just over the road from where I picked up that guy after asking him for directions to her wedding venue (I gave him a lift...)!

Nice house with a lovely view of Cheshire/Derbyshire countryside. Think I ended up polishing a bottle of wine whilst we played a music quiz (which I won - get me!) and the next day, did have a bit of a wine hangover when I eventually woke up at 10.45am, but then I didn't go to bed until 3am, staying up chatting to JH's hubbie!

From there, drove to the glamorous C's - went to the cinema to watch I Am Legend (which was good) and then had a relaxing sauna session at the David Lloyd, followed by some healthy soup.

Back to hers, we had a coupla gins and played a few games of Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG - oh yeah, some serious duelling but it was a great laugh, I won 3-1, it was mostly down to luck rather than to my game tactics though.

We then watched Kill Bill (one of my fave films) and also The Tuxedo - serious square eye syndrome as I really don't watch so much TV these days!

The next day, the glamorous C picked up her kids from her ex so I spent a little time challenging them to Wii Play (I was ace at the shooting game!) and Yu-Gi-Oh! before I then drove back to Manchester to meet up with CK from work to go to see the Man City v Liverpool match.

I may as well not have bothered, it was so frustrating as City were very much playing a defensive game and the Scousers, well the Scousers didn't take any advantage to keep up with the leaders in this bore draw. Rafa made no subs!!! What was all that about!?

Boss says we can leave early - yay!

Here's Jonny....

I was a bit of an armchair rugby fan this weekend - thought I was going to witness the demise of the reigning holders but instead, saw a truly gritty performance by the English, who against all odds, overcame the Aussies to win 10-12, all points scored by Johnny Wilkinson. Brilliant!

And then, I watched the French overcome the tournament favourites New Zealand in an exciting game, to set up a delicious semi-final tie against England next weekend. The other tie will be between South Africa and rank outsiders Argentina.

I'll take an England v Argentina final any day!

Fraternal Viewing

I swore that I wouldn't watch this year's Big Brother series, but shamefully, I got sucked in right from the start!

How could I not watch the sparks fly as eleven women trooped into the house (many of them dolly birds who can't talk about anything except makeup, dancing and footballers) and watch how Channel 4 tried to stir things up by introducing a man into the house?

As a social experiment it works brilliantly (especially now that they've introduced two more men into the house for the male-starved girls...except the two guys are gay...). If you're after intelligent conversation, well, it's the wrong programme to watch!

A girl has already been booted out for stupidly saying something that was deemed offensive - shades of what happened in the Celebrity Big Brother series with the 'poppadum' saga but perhaps it was blown out of proportion, I dunno.

Think more people phoned up complaining that the girl shouldn't have been evicted but there you go - fickle viewers.

Me, I won't waste any money phoning in or voting. I don't like any of the people in the house but there are none that I hate either (hmmm..maybe one or two).

It's addictive car-crash telly at its best/worst - delete as applicable!

24 hours later...

I've just finished re-watching 24 Series 1 on DVD - it's taken me a little over a week, ploughing through a few episodes a night.

Some parts dragged on a little bit but it was all pretty watchable the second time round, made easier with the great storyline and superb acting.

I checked out the 'alternative ending' and am glad they didn't use that - I would have been so disappointed and think I would have felt somewhat cheated by such a poor ending.

Season 2 is still wrapped up in cellophane - I watched most of this series on TV but not the last few episodes. Think I'll give myself a break (of a few days maybe...) before immersing myself in the world of Jack Bauer again...

Have managed to avoid watching Big Brother since I've returned from Stockholm for the long weekend but it's hard to pick up a newspaper without finding out about the freaks and weirdos on the show.

I caught the Swedish Big Brother final last week ... if people think the BB Brits get up to naughty stuff, well let's just say there's still a loooong way to go before they catch up to the saucy Swedes!

TV watershed? Doesn't exist over there, so there was full-frontal (male and female), boy trying to snog boys, girls snogging girls, lots of nudity and sex (ok they didn't actually show the actual act but they played the noises and various moving duvet shots...). I checked the time - it was 7.10pm, so probably early enough to put anyone off their tea!

I think the girl who won had slept with 3 of the guys, but I could be wrong - it was all in Swedish and I wasn't looking that closely at the moving duvet shots...too busy trying to eat my tea!

Eurovision Rocks!

In bed with a stuffy cold and the bf out with his mates, what better way to spend a non-alcoholic Saturday evening than to watch the Eurovision Song Contest?

The usual European bland pop, some nice-ish ballads, witty Wogan quips, lots of leg and bosom, some funny chanting and for the first time...some ROCK!

Finland won by a mile with their monster-dressing rock band, and I should have trusted my gambling instincts and put a few quid on Lordi to win.

Sweden take the Eurovision seriously (forever looking for another ABBA-type success) but these last couple of weeks, I didn't even know what the Swedish entry looked or sounded like, but I knew all about Lordi cos they were being interviewed by everyone wanting to find out about the weird Finns behind the monster-masks.

Lordi on Top of the Pops next? I wouldn't bet against that!

Lost Again

I've just started rewatching season 1 of Lost on DVD - watched 4 episodes back to back and it's just so...more-ish!

Great to see the characters as they were at the beginning, knowing how they develop later on in the series. Also, I missed a few episodes, so looking forward to watching those for the first time.

Beautiful location, great looking cast and intriguing storyline(s). Fantasy TV in its prime!

Square Eyes

If anyone asked, I would say that I didn't watch a lot of television, but perhaps I'm not really telling the truth these days.

I sporadically catch the odd EastEnders episode, but since they've recently killed off the only good-looking bloke on there, I won't be tuning in again.

Also been switching on and off for Celebrity Big Brother - is it me but there actually seems to be one vaguely "normal" person in there, Ordinary Boy Samuel Preston? Usually, the whole house is full of freaks and celebrity wannabes.

Lost has just finished and I wasn't disappointed with the ending, just gagging for more! Intriguing storyline, beautiful actors/actresses, it's been a great series and I can't wait for season 2 to find out what happens next.

Season 2 of Desperate Housewives starts in the meantime - I didn't think this would be the kind of programme I would enjoy, but I love it cos I think it's really funny.

Sea of Souls started last week - BBC drama at its best about a paranormal unit based in Scotland.

Anyone watching Life on Mars? Detective is involved in a car accident in 2006 and when he wakes up, he's gone back in time to 1973. Cue classic Ford Cortinas, wide collars and lapels, good old fashioned 70's sexism. Likeable characters make this great viewing.

Finally, after catching the tantalising adverts for the programme, I've been drawn into Invasion. Appears to be military/government conspiracy hiding alien invasion, "abductees" acting a bit strange when they return, etc. Interesting stuff.

Any more vegging in front of the tv, I'll be a major couch potato, but I guess it makes a change from vegging in front of my pc.

Roll on the Weekend

Well, it's Friday again and as usual, after a swift pint in the pub at lunchtime, I'm just counting the hours down until I can go home!

The bf is cooking tonight, so am looking forward to having some lasagne, washed down with a coupla bottles of beer (Calsberg these days - buy one 8-pack, get another pack free!) and relaxing to some DVDs ('Alias - season 2'). Am a bit behind on my gaming these days, but can't get my motivation up, just leaving things ticking along.

There's a full Premiership fixtures list this weekend to look forward to; oh and can't forget the cricket either - hopefully, England will do us proud, unlike Sven's lot the other night.

Off into Manchester city centre tomorrow afternoon, which should be buzzing as it's the Manc Derby - can Andy Cole score the winner for City? Would be funny if he did!

And hey, got The Offspring concert to go to on Tuesday - how did that come round so quickly??
