Crappy Post Office

Ok...how could this happen? The boyfriend takes my parcel to the post office, gets it weighed, pays the postage and gets a certificate of postage. I get an email from the guy the parcel was going to, saying that the post office had witheld the item unless £1.79 was paid as there wasn't enough postage on the parcel.... WTF??? Am gonna have to send £1.79 to the guy and try to claim my money back from the post office... but this is ridiculous!

For the last couple of years, Royal Mail/postmen (& women) have been providing an abysmal service - more stuff getting lost or damaged, we get our neighbours' post, our neighbours get ours. First Class - they obviously don't know the meaning of it. Sadly though, we still have no alternative postal service, though am sure this is to change soo (it has to!).
