One Way Ticket

This evening, my gran and I enjoyed a lovely steak dinner.

The occasion?

Tomorrow, after living in the UK for over 20 years, she is leaving the country for good, to be closer to my mum and my aunt.

Ok, it's not as if I'm not going to see her again but it will be a long time until we meet again and I am going to miss her dreadfully :-(

Although still fiercely independent at the age of 83, they worry about her being on her own and me, I'd be unable to look after her when she inevitably becomes more dependent.

The past couple of weeks, I've been helping her clear her flat, throwing away a lot of stuff, bagging up clothes for charity shops etc. Took loads of stuff home with me too - bottles and bottles of cleaning products (all unopened), jars and bags of dried food, some recognisable, others mysterious and unidentifiable...

*sigh* No more Sunday visits to Chinatown for dim sum, no more traditional home cooking, no more listening to her gossipping about her neighbours, no more stories of when she was young and living in poverty, no more free electrical goods from the local casino!

She will have a more comfortable life in Hong Kong - better weather and food, lots of close family around her. I shan't have to worry about her at all.

I shall just miss her so much and it'll be at least a year before I see her again. I wonder if she will miss me? :-(

  1. In a way, I hope she doesn't miss you. Because then it'll means she's having too much fun to have the time to miss you!

    Which'd be a good thing, right? :)

Awww it is always really sad when something comes to an end. Of course you will miss her and yes, I'm sure she'll miss you and your outings together.

  3. Hi - I am sure she will miss you. I know that as my family are in the UK and I being in Australia what it is like to be away from loved ones. Having said that, I found the love and bond between us grew with the distance that we were apart. I hope this helps!

ps: thanks for visitng my blog recently. Go Ebbsfleet!
