Barclays Bank = Shoddy!

I don't normally go on a corporate/establishment type rant (unless it's about work) but since I'm in this kinda mood this week, I'll rant about Barclays Bank.

In a nutshell, I called them 3 times this week with a view to opening a new account. Spoke to nice people at their call centre inIndia who said that someone would call me back to make a Saturday appointment.

Three occasions, nothing, nada, zip.

Well, since they obviously didn't want my business, I've gone elsewhere - hello HSBC!

My mate at work later confirmed that Barclays have AWFUL customer service, she has banked with them for many years and is seriously considering changing banks because of their abysmal service record.

Back to ranting about work - some emergency meeting has been called this afternoon, I've no idea what it's about but it can't be good news! :-(

  1. To save myself some typing, here's a comment I left on Cikgu Tan's blog a week or two ago:

Hate to tell you this, fella, but that's perfectly normal behaviour for a British bank. I refer you to the fun I had with Barclays a couple of years ago:
    Part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4 and part 5 (result!)

Warning - very rude language. Sorry about that.

  2. All banks are bastards.

I can't believe Barclays lost £1bn in the sub-prime market this year, bleated about it and put their interest rates up for borrowing, then still posted £7bn PROFITS.

I wonder sometimes if money is the biggest commodity traded nowadays. What a strange world we live in :(

  3. I closed my Barclay's Acct. November 15, 2007 and was given a close out amount. I paid it and went merrily on my way.

6 MONTHS later my credit rating has dropped 100 points! For Non-payments.

The Reason, we learned... There was an additional $28 dollars in fees assessed that close out month. I NEVER received any mail or phone calls from Barclays. Instead they assessed monthly late charges and accrued interest.

After multiple calls we were told to write to the address below.

    Executive Office
    C/O Office of the President
    PO Box 8885
    Willmington DE, 19899

By a Manager. Our "Manager's" customer service number is:

    36476

He told us we were out of luck and he had the power to make our life hell. Even though we had in "Good Faith" closed the account and paid off the balance that their customer service person gave us.

My personal advice based on my personal experience is to beg you for your own sake.... Don't do Business with these people!

  4. I just realised those old links above still work because I've not deleted my old blog structure. Handy :)

But yeah. Barclays are SH*TE, frankly. I'd not go near them with someone else's.

  5. I was wondering about comments to old posts, but all are welcome! Good job I didn't go with Barclays in the end!
