Our Italian colleagues had decided it would be a waste to come all the way to their great city and not see at least something of it.
So after our evening meal on Thursday, they took us out for a walkaround. Ok, it was dark and my pics didn't come out right so I borrowed these from Google...
We went to De Piazza di Spagna, or The Spanish Steps. There were loads of people just sitting on the steps, even so late at night, singing songs and enjoying the great atmosphere.
We then wandered past lots of little side streets filled with designer shops and boutiques until we came to De Piazza del Popolo - breathtaking.
The significance of this piazza was that I'm currently reading Dan Brown's 'Angels and Demons', the prequel to 'The Da Vinci Code', set in Rome and De Piazza del Popolo is featured as a "murder scene"... cool! :)
All in all, a fantastic week - lasting impression of Rome will be great food, old cobbled roads, little designer shops down winding streets, mad drivers, glorious sunshine and that 'pizza' had nothing to do with 'piazza'!
Work-wise, our colleagues were surprisingly laid back and I didn't learn any Italian swear words as nothing seemed to really faze them.
I would love to return and explore the city in full.
Sounds like you had a good time, for being at work and all.
ReplyDeleteI visited Italy a few years back, Venice was pretty, Rome was huge and Florence was lovely.
Only had two weeks, so may have missed a few things ;)
I spent four months working in Italy. But never made it far enough north to get to Rome.
ReplyDeleteGood attitude Italians. Liked it there. And they dig football in a big way too...
Oh, and I say I was working..I worked occasionally I guess. I seemed to spend most of the time there drinking to be honest...
Hehe, yeah - the Italian life seemed to be great!
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have gotten the opprotunity to visit Rome. Glad you took the chance to see the city somewhat
