Super Sub wins Super Cup!

We're barely into the season and Liverpool have already won their first trophy - the UEFA Super Cup!

Monte Carlo was the place....Cisse was the man!

Losing 1-0 to CSKA Moscow for much of the match, it looked like game over for a lack-lustre Liverpool until Cisse came on as sub. With rumours of a Michael Owen return, he had a point to prove and so he did, albeit with a bit of luck for his first goal in the 82nd minute, resulting in extra time being played.

Cisse's second goal was scrappy, but then he sent a beautiful cross for Luis Garcia to head into the back of the net and Liverpool were 3-1 up.

Sorely missing the skills of Steven Gerrard, the team were disappointing, despite some good individual performances by Alonso, Sissoko and Carragher. Definitely huge room for improvement throughout the team though.

The first trophy of many this season? Let's hope so!

  1. Cisse's good when playing forward, has the pace we need to penetrate defenses... I just hope Rafa keeps him AND gets owen back too.
