You're the One that I Want!

I'm not really into musicals but there is one that I'm a sucker for and that's Grease.

I'm from the generation that recalls as a kid queueing up for hours outside the Odeon cinema during the opening week of Grease the movie in the 70s.

Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsen, played by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John were the ultimate in a classic boy meets girl, boy loses girl, girl goes all vampy and gets boy kinda story - the music was and still is fab.

Realistic? No. Cheesey? Yes, but in a fun way.

I didn't realise there was an adult theme in the movie, until when I watched it years later and couldn't believe that I had childishly laughed at Kenicki's "It broke!" comment, little understanding that he was referring to a condom (those were the days eh, when children didn't know all about sex...)

I'm going to see the show in Manchester tonight - shame me and the girls didn't have time to sort out our Pink Ladies outfits, although I think some baby-pink printed t-shirts have been ordered and will be picked up before we go.

Looking forward to being Hopelessly Devoted to some Summer Lovin', etc!

  1. The stage musical is actually a little naughtier than the film. Enjoy!

  2. Apparently when I was little, I cried at "Sandy".

    When I say little, I mean 24.

  3. It was brilliant! As Em said, it was naughtier than the film but also, it was funnier! A great big singalong and clapalong.
LB - it wasn't 'Sandy' that made me cry, it was 'Hopelessly Devoted To You' that did it...blub!
Just nipped onto ebay to buy the DVD - time to ditch my old VHS copy!
