Fantasy Football!

It was the stuff of dreams. A game of two halves. A great escape. A host of other cliches.

The Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan, the Italian team the favourites to win. Liverpool the rank outsiders as they have been throughout this championship.

Within 50 seconds from kick-off, Milan were a goal ahead. The Scousers were shell-shocked, so much so that their game plan went to pieces and by half-time, Milan had scored two more (incredible) goals to make it 3-0.

I was ready to turn the television off.

Fortunately, I didn't. The red team that came back on the field in the second half was different - Rafa the Gaffer must have worked wonders in the dressing room. Their captain Steven Gerrard quickly scored a goal, making it 3-1. There was some hope.

Substitute Smicer came on for what could be his farewell game for Liverpool and scored a beautifully struck goal making it 3-2! The game was on!

With 2 goals in the bag, Liverpool surged forward, their passing game that was non-existant in the first half breaking through the Italian defence. Gerrard was brought down as he went for goal and Xabi Alonso converted the resulting saved penalty! 3-3...WHO WOULD HAVE BELIEVED IT???

Extra time came and went and like the drab FA Cup final at the weekend, the title was to be decided on a penalty shootout. I could barely watch and was shaking at this point.

From zero to hero, cometh the hour, cometh the man, Jerzy Dudek the Liverpool goalkeeper saved two penalties and the trophy was Liverpool's!

When Gerrard lifted the trophy, I cried like the girl I am. And as it's the fifth time Liverpool have won the title, they get to keep the trophy! What an outstanding performance!

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to sleep tonight but I will certainly be beaming at work tomorrow as I skip past certain people's desks!

WAY TO GO REDS!!!

  2. Lord Bargain, you seem to have been rendered speechless, like many other United fans I've encountered this morning! LOL!

I watched most of the first half, but when Milan went 3-nil in front I turned it over to househunters, convinced they were going to walk away with it.

30 mins later and I switched back, just in time to see all three goals. That Dudek goalie was totally insane.

    Congrats to all 'pool fans
