Brill

My first music festival was a great experience - the sights, the sounds, the smells - all unforgettable.

The weather held out, although the wellies were an absolute must as we trooped around the field from stage to stage.

If you love people watching then festivals have to be the places to go - thousands of people from all walks of life, dressed in all kinds of fashions (for girls, mini-skirts with wellies seemed to be in vogue) , wacky hairdos, weird and wonderful hats, some people in fancy dress, some not but they looked like they were in fancy dress.

And the music. Wow! There were loads of bands I hadn't heard of before but I guess the first recognisable one was Fightstar - yeah, ex-Busted singer Charlie - pretty heavy stuff compared to what he used to do, but kinda credible and it went down well.

Next came Fall Out Boy - I got their album for my birthday and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked (and still like) it - indeed, the tracks that they have released as singles are probably their poorer songs (but still good). They got the crowd chucking things at each other and it was at this point I was hit on the head with half a pint of beer - good for my hair I guess!

Then, Leeds boys Kaiser Chiefs turned out to a huge roar. They churned out all the favourite tracks - brilliant.

The beer and wine was flowing, we sampled some 'Japanese' noodles and there were a couple of extremely brave trips to the portable loos - absolutely grim as you would expect. Only grimmer, the stuff of nightmares...

It was night time by the time the band I was waiting for came on and Franz Ferdinand didn't disappoint. Stunning performance, all my fave songs performed brilliantly and perfectly.

Bonfires were being lit around the field, providing some warmth and light, and were being put out one by one by the security guards, who were fighting a losing battle.

Some would say that I didn't experience the whole festival thing to the full, as we didn't do the camping thing - instead of grubbing about in a tent in a field, we stayed in a 4 star hotel in Leeds centre. And why not? Gotta use some of my hard-earned cash to grab a little comfort!

Looking forward to see who the line up is next year.

  1. 4 star hotel? In my opinion, that is roughing it. Camping out would be a 3 star hotel. Sounds like a great time was had.
