Speechless

On Friday at work, I was rendered virtually speechless, which doesn't happen very often.

Back in January, I had an interview for an internal position based in the UK. Although it was a job I really wanted, I had done no preparation as I had just started the Swedish assignment. Despite this, I thought the interview went well, but the last thing I heard was that they were going to consider interviewing external candidates. I'd heard nothing since, so just assumed that my application had fallen through and the company hadn't bothered to advise me (it happens). Been too busy in Sweden to think or worry about it anyway.

So you can imagine my surprise when on Friday afternoon, I was asked if I was still interested in the role. I replied that I was and they said in that case, the job was MINE! It took a few seconds for my brain to register what they were saying, hence the speechlessness!

I am really happy that I've secured this permanent role (with a nice pay rise), but I'm also experiencing a small tinge of regret as I will most definitely miss working in Stockholm. I will be doing a handover at the end of June, so need to make the most of my time left now.

How many more weekends can I squeeze in for sightseeing? :)

  6. Thanks all - much as I would like to spend every weekend in Sweden, I think I'll probably only be able to squeeze in 2 or 3 in, but that's still good. Still hasn't really sunk in yet. When it does, I'm sure I'll start panicking about something.
