United in Grief

Manchester United were unceremoniously booted out of the Champions League competition, beaten 2-1 by Benfica in Lisbon.

As they finished bottom of the table, they do not even qualify for the UEFA cup competition, so their only consolation now is to catch up to Chelsea to win the Premier League, or to win a domestic cup.

I should be unhappy that an English team has been knocked out of Europe but I'm not. I'm grinning like a Cheshire cat and have been winding up my friends and colleagues who are United fans and who have made my life (during football season) a misery over the last 10 years. I hope they like a taste of their own medicine and long may they taste it!

My boss who's a United season ticket holder is on his way to Brussels and has said that if anyone mentions the footie, tonight's dinner will be cancelled. Well, it's time I went on a diet anyway... lol!

Is this the end of the road for Fergie? I hope not. I've never liked the guy but it's easy for disgruntled fans to forget what he has achieved and done for the team over the many years. He should be given a chance to rebuild.

Much as I would like it to, I don't think this dark period in United's history will last very long, so allow me to gloat and bask in their misery while I can! :)
