Au Revoir Bruxelles

So my trip to Brussels has come and gone. I stayed in the poshest hotel I've been to in my life, never mind so far on my business travels (The Montgomery).

I also had my only bout of food poisoning (from a dodgy prawn dish I had at said posh hotel...). Not nice, but I was fine after I'd chucked my guts up! :P

My Belgian colleagues were all tri-lingual, who smoothly switched from French to English to Flemish (kinda like Dutch).

My impression of the area of Brussels I was in was lots of big roundabouts and tall buildings. At various occasions, traffic was stopped as European dignitaries/diplomats were escorted through the streets by police cars and helicopters.

Hey, and we even had a trip through the redlight area when our taxi driver got lost...

Sampled some beers, notably Duvel, Leffe (dark and light) and Frambroise (a strawberry beer) and of course Belgian chocs! Other memories will include vast quantities of Bombay G&Ts, some engaging discussion about "multi-cultures integrating into society" nearly leaving my suitcase behind as we were rushing for the airport!

This was, I believe, my last little jaunt in Europe, so I'm very sad about it. Will miss the travelling and miss my travelling companion (the "Glamorous C") and colleagues. When I arrived at the airport in Manchester, whilst I'm not one for feeling depressed, I was feeling pretty sad emotionally.

Will be looking for a new job in the new year when this all ends.... *sigh*

Sounds like you had a good time. What do you mean you'll be looking for a new job? Was it temporary?

  2. Yeah, this was a 12 month project role. I left a permanent job I'd been doing for 9 years to do this - a big risk but well worth it.

Just a bit scary about what happens next...

  3. Is there no Weenie World Tour 2006 to look forward to?

  4. Hey!

That picture took me back to a very good drunken day in Brussels...that Duval is lovely isn't it!

I vaguely remember standing in the middle of that square directing foreign tourists around the painted lines on the floor - and bizarrely looking up at the tops of those buildings telling imaginary people to move back.

It was probably funnier at the time...and funnier when you've had a hat-full of Duval...

  5. There will be a mini Weenie World Tour 2006 if I'm able to get hold of some World Cup tickets...

But apart from that, no, nothing planned...*sigh*
