Liverpool made a winning start in their Champions League group campaign, beating Real Betis 2-1. The newspapers today only talked about Chelsea's 1-0 win against Anderlecht in front of empty seats at Stamford Bridge (the Chelski fans were probably at the theatre or opera...) but the Reds beat a very good Spanish side.Liverpool's talisman Steven Gerrard surprisingly started on the bench but Rafa's tactics clearly worked, with early goals by Sinama Pongolle and Lui Garcia sealing the tie for us. The lanky Crouch was impressive up front, as was Reina in goal.
Ok, so the Reds had to desperately defend in the last 10 mins and Betis pulled one back in the second half, but we got the result we wanted.
Roll on Man U this weekend!
Good old Liverpool. I may be a Gooner, but my father was a Liverpudlian cockney, if that makes an sense, so I respect Liverpool and wish them the best except when playing Arsenal :-)
