An Edinburgh man lost his job over blog comments made about his employer of 11 years. He referred to Waterstone's (the book chain) as "Bastardstone's" and called his manager "Evil Boss".
Funny but stupid. He should have made up a fictitious company name that was not linked in any way to his employer - these days, image and reputation counts for a lot. Blogs (including this one) can be fairly anonymous but give a few hints and clues, it's easy to work out who the blogger is and anything written can be used in a court of law.
I work for a huuuuuuge American international corporation, whom I shall not name. They're not a bad employer (I've been here 8 years), but some of their policies are crap - red tape is as thick as your arm; if you're male and you kiss ass, you move quickly up the corporate ladder; if you're female and inclined that way, you can sleep your way up the corporate ladder.
But employee benefits aren't bad, pay is above average, hence I'll not be doing any bad-mouthing blogging here about this power-hungry-profits-are-everything company that I work for...
:)
Edit (15/01/05) - I've read a little more info about the guy who got sacked and now come to the conclusion that Waterstone's totally over-reacted. They have given themselves far more bad press than his blog ever could. Good luck to him in his appeal.
