Plot - An expedition of archaeologists on Earth discover an Aztec temple hidden under the Antarctic circle, housing a host of Alien creatures. A group of five coming-of-age Predators have also come to the temple, as it has long been a training ground for their race. From there on, it's Aliens vs. Predators, with the humans caught in the middle.
Ever since I saw that Alien skull on display in the Predator's ship in the movie Predator 2 , I've wondered how brilliant it would be if we could see these extreme creatures at each other in an awesome showdown...like Wow!
Unfortunately, the film (IMHO) didn't live up to the hype - not enough of either Alien or Predator, a real shame as the creature special effects/costumes were excellent.
When they were on screen, it was fantastic - the best of both film worlds coming together in an almighty clash - the Predator, mighty hi-tech hunter and warrior, against the Alien, awesome creature with deadly natural skills and defences. When you first catch a glimpse of both Alien and Predator, it's like seeing old friends again, as they are exactly like they are in their previous incarnations.
But, as I said, they don't appear often enough in the film, the storyline was ok, but could have been better, tighter. The ending wasn't too bad either. I was disappointed by the overall film but during parts of it, found it great, nice settings, cool battles/fight scenes. Lance Henriksen was a nice touch in the film but I thought he was kind of wasted really. In fact, despite taking up a lot of screen time, there was little time to get to know or even have any sympathy for any of the "humans" in the film.
Perhaps I had too high hopes for it, or was duped by all the hype.
I will make a point of not reading about any hype about the next Star Wars film as I'm determined to enjoy this one...
